The Accuracy of GPS + GLONASS
GLO can receive position information from both the GPS and GLONASS satellite constellations, allowing it to connect to up to 24 more satellites than devices that rely on GPS alone. This allows GLO to lock on to satellites approximately 20 percent faster and remain connected even at high speed. What’s more, GLO updates its position information at 10 times per second — that’s up to 10 times more often than the GPS receivers in many mobile devices.
Set It Up and Go
Using Bluetooth technology, GLO wirelessly pairs to your mobile device. Just set GLO within range of your mobile device, and in moments you’ll be receiving GLO’s position data. It has up to 12 hours of battery life to keep your position on long trips, and charging GLO between uses is easy with the included USB cable or optional 12/24 volt cigarette lighter adapter. The optional friction mount keeps the receiver safe on your dashboard and in full view of satellites.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2015I love it, now. I bought this to run with Overland Navigator for off-road vehicle track recording and navigating. I've had to get multiple systems to work together, not the fault of the Glo or O.N.. Now that its sorted, its been great. Heres what i did:
Starting from the top: Used with Windows 7 laptop: My Bluetooth device manager discovered the Glo, but represented it as a headphone device that needed troubleshooting. (Don't bother troubleshooting. Just sayin'.) My BT is up to date, and my Glo came shipped with software version 2.7, the most recent. To this day, my BT manager displays the Glo as a headphone with problems, and I never got to the "Connecting" step of set up. I had to explore the Comm port properties and Bluetooth settings to apply the Passcode. Which is 1234. Really. Do this step first! In the Bluetooth manager, my Glo is currently configured Com port 4, 9600 baud. Your com port number may vary, but 9600 will be applied later.
Next issue: I need a program to translate a GPS device to NMEA protocol that my mapping program can read. For my Windows 7 laptop, its GPSGate 2.6 by Franson. (on Garmin's site.) Downloaded and the setup wizard discovered the Glo, no problem.
In GPSGate's INPUT tab, the Glo is configured "com port 4/Garmin to NMEA," and under Output tab, "GPSgate Direct." (Write that down!) There are many, many options, although your com port # may vary. Then, I opened Overland Navigator's Settings program, where I set it to com port 4, 9600 Baud under the GPS Interface tab. I left the NMEA interface alone.
Once GPSgate is "opened," (in the INPUT tab) it responds with a few different messages, here is what they mean: (I think) GPS Not Responding, means that the BT connection failed even though it has good satellite, (blue light flashes, green light solid.) Running Fine, but No Data Coming In means that its BT connected, but no satellite. (blue light solid, green flashes.)
I was stuck in the "GPS not responding" mode for a long time. Franson was "running OK!" but the connectivity from the Glo to BT was crap. Its here that i start losing my mind, but I then discover that when i actually run Overland Navigator and not just the Setup program, the connection becomes good and the program can find and track me. Simple. (huge sigh of relief!)
I'm not a computer savvy person, but I think I've figured it out after much mucking about, and with help from Craig at Spatial Minds, makers of Overland Navigator. Thank you Craig!
Update: its been a few weeks, and my experiences with this device are very good. Overland Navigator's recorded and exported tracks literally drag and drop into Garmin's Basecamp and become tracks and waypoints. (GPX files.) I've also used the Glo on my Android phone with a Bluetooth mapping app, and its super-accurate. I'm happy with the Glo in conjunction with Overland Navigator. Lots of programs navigate OR track, but not many do both. Between the Glo and software, i'm in for less then $175 for two states worth of maps. Happy overlanding camper!
Another Update: its now October 2016 and things are still great. Since the Framson Gate runs in the background, all i do is open Overland Navigator, (actual program, not the setup) and it takes just a few seconds to find me. Exporting files and using them in Garmin Basecamp is great too.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2014I love this device. On my first trip out I paired it with my wifi-only iPad Air 2's iHikeGPS app, which uses topo maps for visuals. Ignore the gripes about the power switch - this issue has been fixed and the switch works just as it should. I wasn't sure if I would need a belt holster, but turns out the receiver gets a good signal from your pocket. The track was perfect with no gaps or distortion. Having the nice-sized iPad screen showing a track in real time is awesome. Some people may prefer the Bad Elf which attaches directly to the iPad, but I have had good experiences with Garmin, and I'm glad I made this choice.
UPDATE: several weeks after I got this, iOS updated to 8.3 which had a problem pairing with bluetooth GPS devices, including this one, so it didn't work. Some time later on a forum I saw a hint to update my GLO software (firmware?) to 2.7. I did this at the Garmin update site (which is none too easy to find) and now it works fine again. Garmin should post some prominent notices about this, but they haven't.
MEANWHILE, while my GLO wasn't working, I bought a Bad Elf GPS with a lightning connector plug-in. That too works very well. It did not quite fit my iPad Air 2 with the Apple smart case (the hard case), so I either had to pull off a corner of the case or (eventually) get an extender cable. The GLO and Bad Elf seem to be equally good at reception. The GLO is a little slicker because it doesn't hang off the iPad, and the Bad Elf is a bit simpler to use because it's right there and you won't forget to shut it off. I wish I knew which unit had a longer lasting battery, but I haven't been able to tell.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2016I am a private pilot and I fly a lot in various types of weather. My onboard GPS system is great but I wanted to use apps like foreflight and Garmin pilot and my phone gps didn't work all too well. The connection is simple but for most phones and tablets you need an app to enable an external gps source. I use one called "Bluetooth GPS" and it makes the connection seamless. The lights on the device are a little confusing at first, so I'll explain. The unit when powered on will flash blue and green. Green flashing indicates searching for GPS signal and flashing blue when looking for connection. The unit when connected will be solid blue and no other color should show. When charging the device will be a orange (and if not connected, flashing blue). when completed charging it will be a flashing orange. The device will power on when plugged in and will stay on until charged. There is no way to avoid this, and that kind of bothered me since if im charging it in my truck its flashing lights at me. Battery life is great and I have never had it fail mid flight as long as I charged it before hand. I've taken it on 6 hours flights with no problem. It even works when my phone gps fails and im driving. It is far more accurate then the internal gps unit so I connect whenever I need reliability in my directions. Works with both android and apple devices, which is one of the reasons I bought it. It has functioned without failure for 3 years now, great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bel prodotto...
2) prezzo
3) batteria proprietaria
Garmin GLO Pregi:
1) Supportata a pieno da Android in parte da IOS
2) Dimensioni
3) prezzo
4) Batteria Standard (tipo quelle dei vecchi nokia)
Difetti:
Io sono soddisfatto e do 5 stelle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic
I am really impressed with the Garmin Glo.
Just sitting in my house I track about 15 satellites and the Garmin is not even near a window. I bought mine just for Aviation use as when I rent a plane I will have a GPS system with me. I bought a tablet and it was a cinch to connect via the Bluetooth connection. I then downloaded some amazing aviation software from Google Play store and now have an amazing moving map with synthetic vision GPS at a fraction of the cost of buying a Garmin hand held one.
Now I had read many reviews on here and found that many complained about the power on/off switch being very touchy and as such the unit would often turn on and when they needed the Garmin it had a dead battery. I find the switch quite firm and do not see how it would turn on by itself that easily. Also if it did somehow turn on while in your flight bag or somewhere it will turn off by itself in 5 minutes if there is no Bluetooth connection found. Now maybe none of this is new info for most who may be reading this.
However I do have some real interesting news for those who wonder what is the difference between the cheaper car Garmin Glo and the more expensive Aviation Garmin Glo. I spent hours trying to find out the difference as I had assumed that maybe the hardware inside the Garmin was different but in the end I discovered it was exactly the same unit. So why the difference in price one may ask.
Here is the difference
With the Aviation Garmin you get the Aviation power cord as most aircraft run off 28 volts and one also gets a friction pad that sits on the dash with the Garmin inside and as such will not slide around.
However the power card I got with the vehicle one states that it is for input of 10 to 30 Volts, so that one works well on the aircraft. So now the only thing you do not get is the friction pad which you can buy separately off other websites for really cheap. However the Garmin has 4 little rubber feet that seem to hold real firm to any surface, so unless you are going to fly upsides down or do 90 degree bank turns I do not think you will ever need the friction pad. So my advice is to buy this much cheaper Garmin Glo as it works perfect for aviation as I explained above.
